Alan Hill is a photographer and Lecturer in Photography at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University) in Narrm/Melbourne. His personal photographic work is primarily concerned with the politics of public space and he is increasingly interested in (re)considering photography as civic action. His broader research interests include the politics of representation and the potential for nonfiction visual storytelling to contribute to social change. He regularly collaborates with Kelly Hussey-Smith, including on projects that seek to contribute to discourses around documentary photography such as the establishment of the Nonfiction Visual Storytelling Network, and the recent Doing Visual Politics initiative, as sites of integrated scholarship.
